Raising Raif

As we watch 2-year-old Raif do his infamous waddle-run across the soccer field, it’s hard not to imagine what he will be like when he grows up. What will be his favorite subject in school? Will he be an academic, an artist, an athlete? What will he study in college or at university? Will he want to be a doctor, a politician, a lawyer or a safari guide? With a million questions about what the future holds for Raif, we are reminded of the many milestones and achievements that stand between him and adulthood.

Raising a child doesn’t happen overnight. But through our eldest children, who are now fast approaching their college graduations, we have learned a thing or two about what it takes to raise a child into a thoughtful, ambitious young adult. Along with the love, care and encouragement Raif will receive growing up at the Rift Valley Children’s Village, as a family we need to ensure we can financially support him through each phase of his development.

Here is an idea of what Raif will need to grow, develop and achieve his dreams:

Raising Raif

When Raif starts kindergarten at Gyetighi Primary School, he will need a uniform and school supplies to jumpstart his learning. $25 provides a child, like Raif, with their primary school uniforms and supplies, giving them the tools they need to achieve success.

As a bouncing baby boy, Raif experiences his fair share of bumps and bruises. But at 13, Raif may need to see the dentist or he may injure his ankle in a soccer game. $150 covers 10 years of healthcare costs for a child living at RVCV, ensuring our kids, like Raif, grow up healthy and strong.

A little older and a little wiser, after graduating from Gyetighi Primary School, Raif will be ready to take on secondary school. In Tanzania, there are many economic barriers outside of tuition that prevent students from attending secondary school. $316 eliminates these barriers, like lunch program fees, allowing Raif to complete his freshman year at Oldeani Secondary School.

Raising Raif

Like all teenage boys, when Raif turns 16, he is going to be hungry… all the time. $825 feeds a growing boy, like Raif, at RVCV for an entire year.

Raising Raif

In his first big step toward independence, after graduating from Oldeani Secondary, Raif will begin his pursuit of becoming a lawyer, a teacher, a nurse, or an elected official. $2,500 will cover the first year of college tuition for a child like Raif, empowering him to explore his interests and build upon his talents.

With your support, we can continue giving our children, like Raif, brighter futures.
