HEALTHCARE AND MEDICAL
On the coffee plantations surrounding RVCV, access to quality health care is all but nonexistent. The nearest clinic is more than an hour away by foot and the nearest hospital is three times as far. Not only is distance a barrier to care, but a visit to the doctor is often prohibitively expensive.
To address this need, TCF created a Rural Community Health Clinic, based at RVCV. Our health clinic is staffed by a full-time Registered Nurse who holds daily office hours for our children, the students and faculty at Gyetighi Primary and Oldeani Secondary Schools, and our wider community.
On any given day our nurse can be found providing all levels of health interventions from bandaging scraped knees to delivering vaccinations to helping deliver babies! TCF’s nurse also helps arrange specialized surgeries and treatments for community members in need.
In addition to the care and trainings provided by our nurse, TCF partners with the Foundation for African Medicine and Education (FAME) to provide medical consultations and treatments for those requiring more complex interventions.
