With 122 staff, the team working on-site at the Rift Valley Children’s Village (RVCV) is bigger than most realize.
Selestian Damas, our HR and Purchasing Officer, responsible for managing all of RVCV’s employees, studied employee motivation and development at university following his time as a Student Teacher. When he noticed members of his team not reaching their full potential, he decided to put his knowledge to the test.
In March of this year, Selestian implemented a monthly recognition program designed to increase productivity, job satisfaction, employee retention, and positivity.
Selestian’s first step was to make the initiative a team effort. He collaborated with a few of his colleagues, now known as the Improvement Committee, and charged them with selecting an “Employee of the Month” based on specific criteria that best represent TCF’s core values. The winner is honored in front of their peers at the monthly staff meeting and awarded 5 kg of rice to share with their families.
In the first six months of this program, Selestian has seen improvements in all 122 staff members, with negative reports from supervisors at a record low. In a work environment where care and positivity come first, employees like our June honoree, Nathaneal Dodo, shine. Nathaneal is known for and was honored for his incredible work ethic, professionalism, and enthusiasm in tackling every project.
By fully celebrating our employees’ successes, Selestian is bringing respect, dignity, and hope for a brighter future to each and every staff meeting.
