A Promising Path For Marietha

At 3 years old, Marietha Simon is bright, curious, charismatic, and always eager to tell you about her latest adventure. Before the expansion of our Education Program, Marietha’s educational future would have lacked critical resources, classrooms, teachers, and books. Today, Marietha’s path through school will look much different.

With access to early learning opportunities, individualized support, and higher education, Marietha will benefit from an educational system designed to ensure she has all the tools she needs to succeed.

Here are the steps she will take along the way:

STEP 1:  Marietha, who joined our RVCV family in 2020, is currently participating in our Early Childhood Care & Education Program (ECCE). This initiative provides critical early learning experiences to over 40 children including the youngest members of our family and the children of teachers working at our three partner schools. Marietha spends her time in class getting further acquainted with Swahili and English as well as learning to read, sing, and get along with her peers.

STEP 2: Marietha will enroll in Gyetighi Primary School (GPS) when she is 6. When TCF first partnered with GPS in 2007, it ranked as one of the worst primary schools in the country. Today, GPS is in the top 4% of schools in Tanzania. With a student-teacher ratio of 18:1, a robust teacher training program, and a focus on student-centered learning, Marietha will gain the knowledge she needs to pass the National Exam and continue her education at the next level.

STEP 3: Marietha will enroll in Oldeani Secondary School (OSS) when she is 14. While many students currently enrolled in OSS walk over two hours to school each day, by the time Marietha reaches secondary school, TCF will have constructed dormitories to house over 450 students on campus. Marietha and her future classmates will benefit from a boarding program designed to give students a safe and holistic secondary school experience.

STEP 4: The next step is college! TCF’s Social Work team will work closely with Marietha to determine the best track for her to pursue her dreams. While completing her college applications, Marietha will participate in an internship to further explore her career interests and benefit from life-skills courses like computer training and driving school. When at the college of her choosing, Marietha will still have all the support of home — with a team of guardians ready to help her through each new challenge and adventure.

Marietha, like every child growing up in Oldeani, deserves an accessible, high-quality education. By investing in the local education system for more than 16 years, TCF is paving the way for a brighter future for a community of 10,000.

To celebrate this progress, we launched a campaign where every dollar given will be MATCHED allowing you to DOUBLE your impact today!
