On June 2, we loaded 407 boxes of donations from Maine into a 40-foot container that is on its way to the Children’s Village in Tanzania.
For the last 5 years, the Tanzanian Children’s Fund has been receiving donations from companies, schools, volunteers and
their families and friends, rotary clubs, and churches. The donations have been numerous—hand made quilts for our kids’ beds, new shoes and backpacks from Nike, medical supplies, school supplies, water bottles from Camelbak for all 450 students at our local primary school, toys for our Pre-School, clothing from Patagonia, and books, Band-Aids, baby clothes.
The container will arrive in the port of Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania on July 18th where the boxes will be loaded into two 20-foot containers, which will be trucked, to Karatu Town. From Karatu Town, the truck will take each container up the mountain to the Children’s Village.
This project, dubbed the Big C, wouldn’t have been possible without the help of many, many volunteers who all know this has been a ‘group effort’. Don Olen and Peter Noyes of Earl W. Noyes & Sons provided us with expert advice, a moving truck and Chip Mead to help professionally pack the container. We know everyone at the Children’s Village will be very excited to have “Christmas” come early this year! .jpg)
Thank you so much for all these thoughtful and useful donations and many hours of sorting and packing!
